Basic Safety Awareness

The Basic Safety Awareness is a new requirement for the 2009-10 season, and is part of the wider revision of the safety procedures at Thames.

All active members of the club are required to complete their Basic Safety Awareness before setting foot, or bottom, in a Thames boat for the first time. New members will have been provided with a copy of the leaflet along with their membership form. An electronic copy can be downloaded here.

You will need to confirm to the club that you have read and understood the Basic Safety Awareness leaflet. You can either do this by signing the safety box on the membership form, and providing a valid email address, or if you are an existing member of Thames you can email the Safety Committee on safety@thamesrc.co.uk. Please note that when you sign the safety box of the membership form, or email your confirmation, you are also acknowledging that you can swim 400m in rowing kit.

If you would like to scull, cox or foot-steer a boat at Thames, you will need to work towards the TRC Tideway Steering Certificate. Please note that the Basic Safety Awareness requirement is separate from the Steering Certificate and applies whether you wish to steer or not.

If you have any questions regarding the Basic Safety Awareness, Steering Certificate or other general safety queries, please drop the Safety Committee a line on safety@thamesrc.co.uk.
